OK, an airband is, like, a group of guys or grrls who get together on stage, hold instruments, and then pretend to be actually making music while a pre-recorded tape of someone else's music is playing. Thus far the most famous airband group is Milli Vanilli. Lipsyncing is the same thing, except the performer dispenses with the band thing, and stands on stage alone, howling silently into a microphone as, say, a Bette Midler tune plays. Drag Queens and Drag Kings have made this style of performance into a true, albeit sometimes tawdry, art.
